WPHX (1220 AM) is a radio station simulcasting sister station WFNX's modern rock format, which originates at Lynn, Massachusetts-based WFNX. Licensed to Sanford, Maine, USA. The station is currently owned by Phoenix Media/Communications Group.[2] The station was silent as its transmitter failed in 2010, but returned to the air in June 2011. WPHX signed on as WSME on November 9, 1957.[1] The call letters were changed to WPHX after being purchased by Phoenix Media/Communications Group in 1999. Its original studio was located on lower School Street in Sanford.
The station is in the process of being acquired by Port Broadcasting, which also owns WNBP in Newburyport, Massachusetts.[3]
